What can we use a coaching process for?
These are the areas of action of coaching, in the company and outside it.
When they hear the word coaching, many people still think that it is something only for top executives of large multinationals. And to further confuse the issue, if you delve deeper into the matter, there will be those who tell you that it is used in this area to motivate managers or executives, turning them almost into those aggressive figures shown in the movies; or there will be others who point out that it is used with "lost cases", rebellious yuppies who only have the trick of coaching to avoid being fired in the end.
The reality that this raises is that there is still a great deal of ignorance among the general population about the true raison d'être and usefulness of coaching. Of course, where it has matured and where it is more widely applied or better known is in the business world, but the first thing to clarify here is that in this field it is not used as a motivational tool, because coaching is not motivation, much less is it used as "punishment" for workers with behavioral problems.
But, in addition, coaching made the leap beyond the business world a few years ago, giving rise to so-called life coaching. Thus was born the so-called life coaching aimed at any person and applied in a multitude of everyday facets.
Bearing in mind that a coaching process can take place in an infinite number of areas, we will clarify in this article what it can be used for both at a business level and at a personal level.
Why use coaching in a company?
As we mentioned at the beginning, there is a mistaken belief that coaching in the business world is either a motivational tool or a punishment. Actually, when we see what coaching is used for in this field, we will understand that it is really an investment to improve the company; and if we talk at the level of the worker, it is a reward for him, and not a corrective.
In business coaching we must distinguish between the different subtypes that exist in itIn order to be able to talk about the reasons why coaching can be used in one case or another.
1. Executive Coaching
On the one hand, it is directed to the high positions of the companies and middle management. Coaching in these cases is mainly aimed at helping them to face new goals and challenges within the company as well as to improve their skills as leaders to generate a positive impact on employee relations.
But executive coaching can also be applied to specific people in the company for different purposes. For example, to boost workers with potential to be future middle managers with good leadership skills, or for those who have performance problems and are not giving the best of themselves.
2. Team Coaching
This is coaching applied to specific departments or parts of an organization.. In these cases, some of the reasons why coaching processes are applied are to help the department as a whole achieve a common goal; also to develop effective group work strategies; or to consolidate a specific team and improve the relationships between its members with the aim, always, of improving the work environment and, therefore, productivity.
3. Organizational Coaching
It is, in general terms, to apply coaching to the entire company as a whole.. The coachee is the company as a whole and the objectives are usually quite ambitious and on a very large scale. The work of a coach is used in these cases mainly to achieve an efficient management of resources or in order to improve relations between departments.
What does an "ordinary" person use coaching for?
It has been called life coaching, which is accessed by anyone who wants to improve or overcome life difficulties that are preventing them from being their best version of themselves. A clarification should be made here: life coaching is not therapy, but a methodology for defining personal objectives and designing a guide to facilitate the process of achieving them.
Although the list of reasons why people may demand a coaching process is as wide as dilemmas or objectives there may be, we could define some of the most common ones.
1. Personal blocks
When the person feels that he/she is stuck in life; when he/she does not know how to organize him/herself; when he/she does not know how to get organized.when he/she does not know how to organize him/herself; when he/she finds it difficult to prioritize and ends up overloaded, etc.
2. Professional blocks
The individual wishes to change job but does not know how to take the stepThe individual has the feeling that he/she should do something else, but does not dare to take the plunge; when he/she likes his/her job, but does not know how to manage relationships with colleagues and managers, etc.
3. Blockages in relationships
The person feels that their relationship with their partner is at a standstill; they are unable to establish a connection with their children; they find it difficult to relate to others; they are unable to establish lasting relationships, etc.
4. Blockages in the management of healthy habits
The individual wants to stop smoking; would like to eat healthier; wants to implement a sports routine and maintain it over time, etc.
Concluding
To say that coaching is useful for almost everything may be very ambitious, but this article shows that it is a resource with a very wide area of application. a resource with a very wide area of application..
As you have been able to see, there are so many areas in which the work of a coach can be required that it is, without a doubt, one of the professions with the greatest potential today.
