Clexane: functions and side effects of this drug
This anticoagulant drug is used especially to prevent Blood circulation problems.
Cardiovascular problems are probably, along with dementia and cancer, among those that cause the greatest concern to the majority of the population, given the importance for our survival of the normal circulation of blood through our organism and that the heart continues to pump it in the usual way.
And it is a fact that a large proportion of elderly people suffer from some kind of heart or circulatory problem.
However, medical advances have allowed the development of drugs that can treat some of these types of pathology, such as the well-known Sintrom or the drug we are going to discuss here. the drug that we are going to talk about in this article: Clexane.
What is Clexane?
Clexane is a type of anticoagulant drug widely used in the medical anticoagulant type of drug widely used in the medical fieldIt is used in response to complex, life-threatening cardiovascular problems.
As an anticoagulant, its function is to reduce blood clotting, which, although it is generally positive in helping to stop bleeding, in specific cases in which this process occurs to a great extent, it can hinder the passage of blood and even cause a thrombus. Thus, thanks to the anticoagulant it is possible to keep the blood circulating in a liquid and fluid manner and reduce the risk.
Clexane is a drug whose active ingredient is enoxaparin sodium, one of the low-dose heparins. one of the low-molecular-weight heparins (which are derived from (which are derived from unfractionated heparins) obtained from pork casings. It is a drug whose main route of administration is endovenous or subdermal, marketed as prepared syringes. It is not applied orally or intramuscularly.
Its functions
Clexane is a drug widely used in various conditions in which it can become life-saving, either as a treatment or even as a prevention of some potentially life-threatening situationsall of which are related to the cardiovascular system.
One of the main indications is in the treatment of deep vein thrombosis, a condition in which blood clots can form in the bloodstream. in which blood clots block one of the veins of the organism, generally directed to the extremitiesThis condition, generally directed to the extremities, can have important consequences (including a possible pulmonary embolism).
It is also used not only during treatment but also as prevention in high-risk cases or to prevent recurrence in people who have already suffered from it previously.
It is also used in the treatment of acute coronary syndromes, including some types of angina pectoris and heart attacks, usually as a preliminary step or in conjunction with other medications, as well as in the prevention of recurrences. It has also been shown to be effective in preventing it has also been shown to be effective in preventing possible thrombi in cases of respiratory or cardiac failure, as well as in people in coma or in people who are in a coma.It has also been shown to be effective in preventing possible thrombi in cases of respiratory or cardiac failure, as well as in people in coma or who must be kept in a recumbent position (for example during a long convalescence) and even in preventing possible clots in the case of patients undergoing hemodialysis.
It should be noted that Clexane can be used at any age from adulthood onwards, including very advanced ages if necessary. However, there are not enough studies carried out with minors to know if it is a safe drug, being a drug that should only be applied to adults.
Possible side effects
This drug has proven to be very useful and has saved many lives since its discovery, but like all drugs, it is not free of risks and side effects. it is not without risks and side effects.
First of all, as with all other anticoagulants, it should be noted that the fact that blood coagulation is prevented means that bleeding of varying severity can occur in any part of the body.
Seemingly simple wounds and blows may bleed or generate internal hematomas of great relevance. of great relevance, being necessary to be very cautious in this respect. This is the most frequent secondary symptom. Likewise, and derived from it, anemia may also appear due to blood loss. Sometimes these hemorrhages can occur at intestinal, spinal or intracranial level, being much more dangerous.
It has also been observed the possibility of appearance as well as edema, erythema, alopecia, dermatitis or even fever. It has been observed that in some cases the level of potassium in blood increases excessively or even triples the levels of transaminases and other hepatic enzymes. More serious are cases of cutaneous necrosis or vasculitis, hepatic lesions or thrombocytopenia which can paradoxically generate thrombosis (something that makes it necessary to periodically make a platelet count of the subject).
Contraindications
As we have seen, although Clexane is very useful, it can also generate dangerous effects, which can endanger certain sectors of the population. That is why it has several contraindications.
One of these contraindications can be found in the cases of those who are allergic or hypersensitive to this drug and to other heparins, as well as to its multiple components. It is totally contraindicated in people at high risk of hemorrhage, including people who are about to undergo surgery.including people who are going to undergo surgery or are going to have punctures, people with ulcers, aneurysms or vascular problems in which the vessel walls are more fragile.
Also in people with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia. People with high levels of potassium in the blood should avoid it, and it is not recommended in severe renal insufficiency (with the possible exception of its use in dialysis), as well as extreme caution should be exercised in the case of hepatic insufficiency.
It is also not recommended, or at least great caution and control is required in diabetic patients due to adrenal due to the adrenal alterations it may cause. Underweight or obese patients should be monitored, as there is an increased risk of bleeding or thrombus. The use of Clexane in people taking other drugs should be consulted. Finally, and as we have indicated previously, since there are no data on this matter it is contraindicated in children.
