Pharmacological action

When taking Urso (Ursodiol) in moderate therapeutic doses, it has a cholagogic effect, causes intensification of gastric and pancreatic secretion, intensifies the activity of lipase, acts as a hypoglycemic means, decreases the level of cholesterol in blood.

In case of curing the gallstones, the duration of treatment with ursodiol may be up to several months, but some gallstones may still not be dissolved. Interaction with other drugs

Urso can react with other drugs. Such interaction can harm your health or influence the necessary dosing of the drug.  If you are taking one or several medications, listed below, consult your doctor before using ursodiol! You may not be allowed to take this medication or may need to have your dose adjusted.

— cholestyramine (Questran);
— colestipol (Colestid);
— estrogens (birth control pills or hormone replacement); or
— antacids that contain aluminum, such as Rolaids, Mylanta, or Maalox.

Ursodiol can be affected by other drugs, which are not mentioned above. Tell your doctor about all the drugs you use, including vitamins, minerals, herbal products.  Each new drug can be taken together with ursodiol only after doctor’s approval.
