Scientific studies that support it

- The volume of scientific studies on homeopathy is increasing.
- Certain studies consider homeopathy to be effective beyond the placebo effect.
- Homeopathy facilitates reduction in the use of certain types of medications.
The volume of studies published in recognized biomedical journals is increasing, so although it is necessary to continue researching, there are already numerous scientific evidences in different fields:
- Similarity principle: (There are substances whose therapeutic capacity is related to their toxic capacity): It is a phenomenon that is observed with numerous substances (and even with many conventional medicines) and that is explored in the field of hormesis (a branch of the toxicology). Explanations and publications can be found in various biomedical journals (Calabrese 2003, Calabrese 2008).
- High dilutions: Substances that have undergone a dilution process can have an observable and quantifiable biological effect, as has been demonstrated and published in various scientific journals (Eizayaga FX. 2005, Sainte-Laudy J. 2006, Venard C. 2009, Banerjee P. 2007). This is explainable when analytical methods such as thermoluminescence (Rey L. 2003) or magnetic resonance imaging (Demangeat JL 2009) are used. Even Professor Luc Montagnier (2008 Nobel laureate) now employs “high dilution dynamics” in his research on HIV infection and its treatment (Montagnier L. 2009).
- Security: That there is little appearance of side effects or that dependence does not occur is something that can be affirmed not only by the clinical experience of thousands of doctors, but by the results of the studies. An example is the study by Dantas (Dantas F 2000) that analyzed all the adverse reaction statements made in the US and Great Britain, plus all the adverse effects (side effects) that appeared during the conduct of any published study, throughout the period. 20 years from 1975 to 1995. The conclusion was that there were very low occurrence of adverse effects, which were mild and transient, and that many of the statements referred to products that turned out to be not homeopathic but herbal (herbal).
- EffectivenessAccording to a report presented by the British Association of Homeopaths to the British Parliament in November 2009, out of 142 randomized studies (RCT, they are more rigorous) 44% showed its efficacy, 8% did not and 48% were doubtful from the point of view from a statistical point of view. Analyzed according to the disease, the positive evidences in randomized studies for the and the (randomized studies) stand out; for,, otitis media and (clinical studies); as well as positive signs in dysmenorrhea, headache and hot flashes, chronic fatigue and
When there are many studies on the same topic, the systematic reviews “add up” all the evidence, and the conclusions have been positive in the fields of respiratory infections and rheumatic diseases, and in diseases such as postoperative ileus (the intestine is not moves after surgery), allergic rhinitis and vertigo.
It is interesting to know that there is an analysis carried out by a group of doctors for the Catalan Society of Family and Community Medicine (CAMFIC), which collects positive evidence in 30 different diseases.
Homeopathy yes or no?
There are systematic reviews that have considered the set of all studies published on homeopathy in recognized journals. There are 5 major studies, 4 of which consider homeopathy to be effective beyond the placebo effect.
The study whose result was negative (Shang A. 2005) was later refuted by reanalyzing the data that were chosen to conduct it (Ludtkea R. 2008).
Interest for the health system
Pharmacoepidemiological studies try to objectify the real impact of various therapeutic strategies. There are three studies carried out in France (where homeopathy is funded) that compare the results according to whether the patient is treated by homeopathic or non-homeopathic physicians. In all of them, the clinical evolution and satisfaction were slightly better when homeopathy was used.
However, the best thing is that the prescription of psychotropics for anxiety (Vainchtock A. 2000), antibiotics and corticosteroids for infant bronchiolitis (Stagnara J. 2004) and antibiotics for recurrent rhinopharyngitis (Trichard M. 2004). Thus, homeopathy facilitates the reduction in the use of these types of medications and consequently reduces the appearance of drug interactions, side effects and the development of resistance to antibiotics.
