Exercise in women and men
What do we have in common or what differentiates us? For some, a lot and for others, not so much. What is evident is that an element, a single piece of information, determines that we are genetically different: the "Y" chromosome. Depending on whether or not it is a DNA marker, the fetus will eventually be a boy or a girl.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
- Impact exercise (walking, running ...) is more convenient for women to keep the bones strong.
- Proprioception exercises (which work the joints) are also more recommended in women.
- They prefer group classes to individual ones.
Differences
The anatomyBoth the one that is perceived with the naked eye and the most internal, are different. In general, the skeleton of the woman is smaller, that is, the bones are smaller and less dense. The muscles, for their part, usually have greater flexibility and elasticity in women than in men. A remarkable difference is the pelvis. So marked is the difference that when human remains are found in an archaeological excavation and the sex of the skeleton is sought, the pelvis is searched, among other structures.
Its shape is wider and shallower than that of the male sex, and this is so to facilitate pregnancy and childbirth. Apart from what would be the function that we have just commented, this anatomical characteristic directly influences the way women walk compared to how men walk. In the female sex, the center of gravity is located lower and moves and there are differences in the biomechanics of the gait, that is, in the way of moving. This influences the time of carrying out according to what type of activities and must be borne in mind.
Bones, a woman's weak point
Up to 35 years there is naturally a strengthening bones, but from that age on, the calcium deposit decreases, let alone when the woman enters the menopause stage. Due to the fact that the typically female hormones, estrogens, are reducing their levels, the metabolism so far adequate to maintain strong bones is on the decline. Therefore, maintain a calcium-rich diet in women It is basic as well as the exercise that will improve this weak point for women. The exercise is recommended for both sexes but for women the exercise called "impact”Even if it is possible it is more. We refer to an “impact” exercise in which gravity exerts its effect, and it will be mostly here that it is not done in. We are not saying that it is not appropriate to do activity in the water but it is recommended to combine water and “dry” (cycling, walking,…).
They are more lax
Associated with the muscles and bones are the ligaments that give stability to the joints. East fabric is more flexible in the women of what would be considered normal and the term "hypermobility”. This fact increases the possibility of injury, especially in joints such as the ankle. One recommendation is that they enhance proprioception exercises, which help strengthen these joints.
The fact that a man can resist more doing sports is a reaction to the anatomical difference between the size of the heart and the lungs between men and women. For a woman to be able to endure the same as a man, she must first print a higher respiratory and heart rate and that, like it or not, produces more fatigue.
Collective classes vs individual practice
Leaving what are properly the anatomical differences and in terms of physical activity, a fact that is usually very palpable, especially in sports clubs or dance academies, is the fact that the women monopolize the collective classesif we compare them with men.
Women have a more developed sense of group than that of man. They are stimulated or motivated more by doing group activities than alone. The reason is usually the fact that in the man the competitiveness and the challenge of self-improvement is greater than in women.
In the gym halls there is in general more men than women running on treadmills than in a "step" class. In addition, those who exercise for a physical aspect will want to improve "key" areas and in women, fats accumulate in different areas than in them, so the GAC classes (buttocks, abdomen and hips), for example, are Almost exclusive terrain for girls, while in free weight areas it is common to find boys working out.
Exercising regularly, as well as eating a healthy and balanced diet, is essential to keep yourself in perfect shape. But it is also important to have one that offers you all the guarantees to be protected against any illness or disease.
