New technologies and mental health: breaking down the barriers of ignorance
The development of new technologies expands the world of possibilities for mental health.
That new technologies have revolutionized the world in which we live is undeniable, and no one questions that they bring a multitude of new tools to all fields. No one questions that they bring a multitude of new tools to all areas.
We are more connected, we share information consciously and unconsciously, and all this information allows different people in different parts of the world to work on the same projects and collaborate so that knowledge can be disseminated.
In the field of healthSpecifically, this translates into international research and intervention projects, program ideas and ways of working that are imported from one area to another, tools that are created to facilitate the dissemination of healthy habits and knowledge to the population, and thousands of data that are used to try to better understand the real habits of people and predict possible incidences (diseases, behaviors, etc.).
Technological development as a potential for mental health
Mental health is still a taboo subject at many levels and it is often difficult for it to enter these areas of technology where privacy seems to be compromised. However, technology also has a lot to contribute in mental health, just as in other areas.as in all other areas of health.
More and more professionals are taking advantage of the opportunities that technology offers to improve research, intervention and dissemination in mental health. This was evident at the IV National Congress of Psychology, which included multiple presentations and round tables on mobile applications, patient management and monitoring tools, intervention tools, information analysis through big data... Opening the door to new ways of working for mental health professionals.
