The messages of life
The messages we internalize are embodied in the way we value ourselves.
All of us have a series of messages or ideas that we have received and that have been transmitted to us, consciously or unconsciously, and that can be decisive in certain moments of our life. at certain moments in life.
In stages of adequate functioning, when things are going well and we seem to follow the rhythm of what is happening, it may seem that these messages are hidden or dormant, that it is not necessary to pay much attention to them or that they do not appear with a clear and determining presence.
On the other hand, in moments in which we feel in imbalance, or that we have to make decisions or, perhaps, to confront changes, then, they appear and become determinant.
How do the life messages we internalize influence us?
These life messages can be presented in the form of limiting beliefs, empowering beliefs and, in both cases, they will be a perception of what surrounds us with a negative or positive with a very decisive negative or positive charge.
Limiting life messages
The limiting beliefs are preconceived ideas that are going to limit the capacity of response or reaction before certain circumstances that happen, under the idea and the limiting thought that we are not able to advance or to achieve something different from what we interpret that we have in front of us.
From this perspective, the vision of what is happening, what we would call reality, is presented as something threatening, negative, and in the face of what little or nothing we are able to achieve.negative and in the face of which we can do little or nothing. In this scenario, we place ourselves in the role of victims, which blocks us and prevents us from moving forward, evolving or working towards certain objectives.
These beliefs do not necessarily have to be validated from an objective point of view.. It can be enough the fact of thinking them and feeling them as a valid concept from the own thought or from a thought that has been given to us, in many occasions, by the environment or by the own family.
Examples
On this scale we would have countless examples; some are very basic like "everything goes wrong for me", "I am not good at dealing with people" and others can be more complex and refer to life, the human being or personal relationships: "love is suffering", "work is the most important thing in life" .... These are just a few examples within immense possibilities. Most beliefs are endorsed by ideas and life messages that have been repeated or have been repeated to us many times during our lives.
Empowering life messages
There are also empowering life messages that become beliefs that allow us to move forward and overcome challenges or changes that arise. or changes that arise. These beliefs allow you to connect with your skills and learnings to apply them in the face of novelties and challenges. They encourage you to put yourself to the test and find ways to bring out the best version of you. When we develop empowering beliefs, we are able to prioritize our own needs and not only attend to those of others.
How to manage them?
If the beliefs that determine your attitude and behaviors are limiting, the good news is that they can be changed.. The way to do so requires training and commitment and following a series of steps.
The first is to properly identify that belief and the thought or thoughts that support it. It is also necessary to question those thoughts and seek to challenge them, perhaps by tracing how they were formed, if they are based on a comparison with other people or situations.
The next step is to replace that belief with a new and empowering one, build it up and repeat it so that it becomesThe next step will be to replace that belief with a new and empowering one, to build it and repeat it so that it becomes a new belief, to support it in a new commitment and to turn it into a challenge to be developed. It will be necessary to link it with concrete actions that will be chained and that will bring us closer to a new result.
Thus, it is very important to be attentive to the it is very important to be attentive to the life messages we transmit, because if they are limiting, we will be clipping the wings of the person to whom we transmit them.If they are empowering, we may be giving a powerful tool to that person to face the future and feel able to face changes, challenges and prove himself/herself without unvalidated incapacitating limits.
To build this type of message, attention can be focused on positive actions and considered achievements or progress, reinforcing and supporting them so that they become a springboard for growth. If attention is focused on the negative, on what has not been achieved or on the limiting fears that need to be overcome, this growth is blocked and the limits that will continue to cause so much damage in the future are established.
