Assisted reproduction
| Approximately 15% of couples in Spain have fertility problems
Approximately 15% of couples in Spain have fertility problems. These are couples who do not achieve pregnancy or who, when they do, do not reach term. Before being alarmed, however, it is advisable to give yourself a margin of a year before putting yourself in the hands of an assisted reproduction specialist. Age (especially in the case of women), lifestyle and certain disorders of the female and male reproductive system are the main causes of infertility today.
After a year of relationships without getting pregnant, it may be time to go to the specialist. MAPFRE policyholders have free access to it, which includes the treatment and study of the couple's sterility, artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization techniques. Specifically, the coverage covers two attempts at artificial insemination and one attempt at "in vitro" fertilization during the term of the policy.
Requirements included in assisted reproduction
- That both members of the couple are insured on the policy.
- That they are under 40 years old and none of them have children.
- None of them have undergone contraceptive surgery (vasectomy or tubal ligation).
- The sterility diagnosis of one of the members has been confirmed.
The program excludes medication, freezing / thawing of embryos, sperm, and eggs, pre-implantation diagnosis, and sperm and oocyte donation expenses.
How does it work
- In assisted reproduction, the prescription and choice of treatment will be carried out by the specialist in assisted reproductive techniques designated by the Insurer, based on the corresponding sterility studies. The treatment will be carried out in the medical and hospital centers and by the doctors designated for this purpose by the Insurer, which do not necessarily have to be located in the province of the Insured's domicile.
- In case of application of the sperm or micro injection, there will be a franchise in charge of the Insured, which will be included in Annex I of the General Conditions. The application of assisted reproduction techniques will comply, in any case, with current legislation.
