Babies on the beach
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ...
- It is not advisable to take babies to the beach, or expose them to the sun or heat, if they are less than six months old.
- With more than six months they can be worn as long as it is in the hours of least insolation, and that they are well protected (cream, clothing) and hydrated.
- When in doubt, it is useful to have the advice of a pediatrician. Many health insurances include this service in their policies, for the peace of mind of parents.
If they are less than six months old ...
It is not recommended to go with babies under six months to the beach for several reasons:
- Their skin is extremely delicate and sensitive to solar radiation, which can cause burns. Putting the baby under the umbrella is not safe either, since solar radiation passes through the fabric.
- Applying sun protection factor to the entire body surface in such young babies has the risk of absorbing toxins through the skin or irritation of the skin.
- Extreme hot conditions can cause problems for the baby, such as dehydration, if you are not careful.
If they are older than six months ...
Even if they are more than six months old, these tips should also be taken into account:
- Respect the hours of less solar radiation: the ideal is to go to the beach before 11 am and after 5 pm. This will ensure that the sun's rays heat but do not burn and you can enjoy safely with your baby.
-: protection factor 50 and apply it about 30 minutes before sun exposure. Repeat the application every two hours or when getting out of the water
- Suitable swimwear: it is highly recommended to wear a hat to protect your head from the sun. Some sportswear trade houses sell T-shirts that protect against solar radiation: a very good option for long games in the water and sand. A cotton t-shirt is also a very good option.
- Hydrate it well: exposure to high summer temperatures makes you lose fluids easily. Breastfeed on demand and / or offer water regularly.
- Be careful with the water: never leave a baby or child alone on the shore of the beach. Drowning accidents are very common in young children
- Make sure that they do not put anything in their mouth: it is a very great temptation for babies not to put things in their mouths, but the sand on the beach is not a good option.
- Take the opportunity to stimulate the baby: crawl in the sand, show him the temperature of the water and the touch of the earth. Give him a massage under the umbrella or make his first collection of pendentives.
- Do not forget to bring a snack, diaper, food, spare clothes and wipes ...
