Emergency kit for exercise
- "Common sense" is the most basic "product" that should be part of a medicine cabinet.
- Basic material for the first aid kit: antiseptic products to clean the wound, plasters and gauze to cover it and avoid possible infection, and material to immobilize the area if necessary.
- In case of having special needs due to issues related to health status, the specific medication should be included in the first-aid kit.
Essential element: common sense
Returning to the theme of "common sense" we could consider it the most basic "product" to be part of this kit. If each individual is aware of their limits, getting to suffer some setback is more unlikely. For this reason, it is worth being clear about what each one can or cannot do in their circumstances.
Basic material
Depending on the type of practice or the place, the needs can be very different. However, there are elements that can be useful in all circumstances. It is quite common to suffer a scratch or get a minor or major injury. Thus, the dressing material is essential:
- Antiseptic products: liquid, gel or alcohol to be able to clean the wound well without having to look for soap and water. Currently there are already prepared gels that allow you to clean the affected area and leave it ready for the next step, which will depend on the degree of involvement. Anyway, if you have saline solution, a good jet to clean the wound and carry dirt, it is to be appreciated.
- Bandages, gauze, bandages and fixing material (tape): a wound must be covered to avoid a possible infection or to stop bleeding if it exists. Cotton should be avoided for cleaning as filaments may remain. Do not forget to accompany this material with scissors since it is not always possible to cut the material easily and this can complicate a simple fact.
- Material to immobilize: when the wound is more serious, it may become necessary to immobilize the area. There are several options: for the most basic level, malleable metal splints allow a finger or a small joint to be fixed; If the injured area is more important, a sling (either with a handkerchief or one of those sold in specialized stores or pharmacies) can get the patient out of trouble momentarily. In addition, incorporating ice helps stop the inflammation that usually accompanies this circumstance. There are bags or creams that maintain their anti-inflammatory properties until they are not used.
- Medication: if you have special needs due to health issues, the specific medication should be included in the first-aid kit in addition to the generic medication based on anti-inflammatory drugs (cream, sprays or pills), antihistamines (creams or pills) and pain relievers for the pain.
In addition to what would be the first aid kit itself, there are a series of maneuvers that, although they must be carried out by someone who knows exactly how to carry them out, it is worth reviewing:
- Heimlich maneuver: if a person suffers a suffocation, the individual is squeezed below the tip of the sternum, in the chest, to create a positive pressure and try to remove the element that has produced that suffocation to the outside.
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers: consists of assessing the state of the situation and avoiding dangers for both the resuscitator and the injured person; try to know the state of consciousness of the individual; ask for help; and place the injured person in a suitable position, either on his side, well stretched out facing upward depending on the state of health. If the CPR maneuver is known and appropriate to the situation, start as soon as possible.
