Ideas for drinking outside the home
Well, there are alternatives and although some are drinks or combinations whose consumption is not so widespread, they are available in many places. And, if not, asking for them is the first step for them to be.
- Going out for a drink does not have to be synonymous with alcoholic drinks, there are many healthier and very appetizing alternatives.
- From light sodas, to bitters, ciders or non-alcoholic beers, to mixed drinks without alcohol or musts. The options are many.
- Some of the proposals, despite not containing alcohol or stimulating substances, contain a lot of sugar, so their consumption should be punctual and moderate.
Light soft drinks
The world of soft drinks is very wide, there are many refreshing drinks based on fruits or flavors that are not stimulating, and generally do not contain alcohol. Of course, they are generally very very rich in sugars, so the best alternative if we opt for this option is to ask for a light or "zero" soda.
Tea or coffee or infusions with ice
Tea and coffee are stimulating drinks but they contain less caffeine than the famous energy drinks and, in addition, we tend to consume much smaller amounts. The infusions do not have that stimulating effect and some also have digestive properties. Perhaps it is an option later than at night, although ... why not? It can also be a good option to have a chat after dinner with friends or colleagues, and if we drink them with ice we have our own "custom soda".
Must
The must is plain and simple the juice of the. It is usually obtained from the whole grape, with skins and seeds and is in fact from the first stages in obtaining wine. The advantage is that as it is not fermented, it does not contain alcohol. The grape is a very sugary fruit, so we cannot say that this drink is sugar-free, but it is also true that its richness in polyphenols make it a recommended alternative.
Bitters without alcohol
It seems that the history of bitters dates back to 1824 when bitter beverages with supposedly medicinal and / or digestive properties were offered, such as Angostura bitters, obtained from the infusion or distillation of aromatic herbs, barks, roots and fruits. Since then it has rained a lot and what we usually consume today under the name of bitters maintains the bitter taste but we do not attribute medicinal properties to it nor does it have to contain alcohol. Its color makes it exotic and its characteristic flavor does not please everyone, but it is a good option if we do not want alcohol or stimulants, although it does contain sugars. If we accompany it with some olives, it is a good aperitif and with a slice of lemon or orange it will add a special touch to the night out.
Ginger ale
Although its name can be misleading, despite its surname Ale, we are not talking about any beer and it is not an alcoholic drink either. Ginger ale is a sparkling drink made from water, lemon, sugar and the aroma of ginger. It is taken alone or is used to make some cocktails with rum, vodka, etc., but it is especially used in alcohol-free cocktails. There is also ginger beer, or ginger beer, and in this case we can find varieties with and without alcohol.
Alcohol-free cider
Cider is obtained from the fermentation of apple juice. Now, non-alcoholic ciders are currently on the market. So, we are talking about a drink, sugary, yes, but made from fruit and that we can obtain without alcohol so it can be an option. Although we can find bottled cider all year round, now the “sagardo denboraldia” or cider season begins in which we can taste the new harvest of cider. This period runs from the second half of January to the end of April. The cider should be drunk fresh, not cold, poured over the side of a glass that will fill no more than 2 or 3 fingers and should be drunk when served, without letting it sit for long, to better appreciate its aroma.
Alcohol-free beer
Undoubtedly one of the most consumed drinks in any bar is beer, there are those who take it as an aperitif, to accompany meals, between meals, when going out to party. For beer lovers, any time is good. Although its alcoholic content is not very high, it is still an alcoholic drink and for those who renounce alcohol but not beer there are non-alcoholic beers, and what is more, 0.0% beers, since in reality those without alcohol contain some alcohol, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9% depending on the brand and type. There are also light and sugar-free versions, so by possibilities it will not be, that is if you have to accustom your palate to the differences that some and other variants present.
Tonic or sparkling water
Of course, if the drink par excellence and the one that should always be our drink and source of hydration is water, sparkling water is a good option to give something more life or chic to the matter but without sacrificing health. While sparkling water or carbonated water in principle is simply that, water and some compound that provides gas, tonic also contains sugars.
Combined without alcohol
It is the most elaborate and striking option, cocktails are the party drink par excellence. Just as there are different recipes for combining drinks that give rise to more or less known cocktails, there is also usually its version without alcohol. We can have mojitos without alcohol, a screwdriver without alcohol or some cocktails that are usually non-alcoholic such as a san francisco, a piña colada (initially it did not contain rum), a combination of chai tea, a Troitis, a Saratoga, etc. In each place customs can change so it is preferable to make sure that you do not carry alcohol if we want to avoid it.
