Is skiing the only winter sport?
Before skiing ...
Of course the sport King of the winter season is the ski in all its modalities: cross-country skiing, board skiing, with traditional skis… There are many who wait for the first snowfall to put on their boots and enjoy the first descents. However, it is not advisable to be unemployed for a year and rejoin skiing without having done maintenance for the rest of the year. Skiing is a demanding sport and the body needs a minimum physical condition to be able to endure long days, a good physical background and adequate muscle tone. In this sense, it can be very useful to follow training routines in the gym to work the muscles (especially those of the legs), strengthen them and stretch them so that, in addition to being strong, they are flexible. Similarly, it is a great complement for the skier.
Security rules
Skiing is ageless: from the youngest of the family to the oldest in good physical condition, they can ski without difficulty. However, falls are very treacherous and it is not the same to fall with six than with 60 years. In this sense, it is essential to take certain precautions and ski safely. For this, it is advisable to use a suitable material that includes the helmet as soon as you start the ski day.
Other modalities
Not everything is skiing, there are many other activities that can be practiced at this time of year.
- Snow rackets: In Spain they are still rare but for some time now they have been practiced more massively in countries accustomed to snow. It is a heart-healthy exercise since the heart derives great benefits from walking, which, in addition, is usually done according to the capacity and limitations of each one. Finally, it allows you to enjoy landscapes that are not usually easily accessible.
- “Airboarding ”: It's a riskier way to slide down snowy slopes that gets your adrenaline pumping to the max. All you need is an inflatable element, similar to a thick mat, on which the daring athlete stretches and lets himself be carried away. It is an extreme sport that requires good physical condition (especially muscular since movements are controlled by the body), agility, good reflexes and a shock-proof heart.
- Swimming or training routines in the gym will help to work the muscles of the legs, preparing the body to be able to endure long days of skiing.
- Snowshoe walks are a heart-healthy exercise that is also considered a winter sport that brings great benefits to the heart.
