 Lafon Laboratories in France developed a new stimulant Modafinil.

Modafinil is one of the new stimulant drugs developed in Lafon Laboratories in France. It is sold in the US under the name Provigil, and in other countries under the names Modiodal and Modasomil. This medication is a psycho stimulant approved by the FDA for the treatment of narcolepsy (uncontrollable attacks of deep sleep), fatigue and excessive sleepiness. It was also tested for the usage against Alzheimer's disease, depression, and for the treatment of attention disorders.

Does Modafinil belong to amphetamines?

Generic Modafinil belongs to a number of drugs created for enhancing focus. The usage of this drug as stimulator shows, that it is favorably different from amphetamines. It practically does not cause a syndrome of addiction, has minimal impact on blood pressure, does not cause hangover after waking up and also shows a very high level of safety during clinical trials.

Usage of Generic Modafinl.

This medication is used in the Air Force and the US Army as a drug that increases attention and working capacity of pilots and soldiers of combat troops. Initially for these purposes was used Dexedrine, the drug of amphetamine group, but it had too many side effects, such as nervousness, anger and a sense of powerlessness. The soldiers confirm that Modafinil lets them act as efficiently as possible for 40 hours without sleep. The drug has been successfully tested in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Recently this drug has become popular among competing athletes. It is used not only to stay awake longer but also in order to increase endurance. In Canada, there was conducted a research during which patients received either a dose of 4 mg per kilogram of body weight of Modafinil (200 mg for an athlete whose weight is 100 kg) or placebo. The research was carried out among 15 male athletes. Three hours after dosing they were working on a bicycle ergometer with a load of 85% to complete exhaustion.

Those who used Modafinil, could do 30% longer than the other ones. A normal dosage for men and women is about 100-400 mg taken 2-3 hours before start of the competition. The increase of this dosage can cause headaches, nausea, nervousness and anxiety. A good idea would be to increase the dosage gradually, taking 50-100mg to the optimum level.

This drug can be used almost in any kind of sport, but it is preferably used in cases when endurance is required. It can also work well on athletes who during the competition have to do short explosive exercises repeatedly, for example, weightlifting.
