Oral care for children
My child complains about, is it a cavity?
- It has been months since a fang fell out and the final one has not yet come out ...
- My son's teeth are coming out on top of each other
- My daughter has fallen and has, what do I do?
These are just some of the dental problems that children suffer from since their first teeth appear. From that moment on, visits to the specialist become compulsory and become a constant for parents either to carry out the appropriate check-ups or to solve the so frequent problems that children suffer at the dental level.
Aware of this, many insurers contemplate in their Health Insurance guarantees that cover the maximum dental care for children until well into adolescence, and among which MAPFRE was a pioneer in this regard.
Necessary check-ups from birth to adolescence
It is important to start establishing good oral hygiene right from birth. Thus, after each milk intake it is advisable to clean the baby's gums with a moistened gauze, although more and more commercial houses produce products designed for this purpose.
The beginning of before the year reduces the probability of developing cavities. At these ages, as is normal, brushing will be done by the parents and, as the child gains autonomy, we can let it end in such a way that it picks up the habit, always under the supervision of an adult, at least until the 7 years.
The first visit to the dentist is recommended around 3 years of age, when you have all the milk teething in your mouth, and from there, if everything is correct, periodic check-ups should be done at least every 6 months , until adolescence. There are specific cases in which reviews are more frequent. It is important to use appropriate toothpaste for each age, due to the fluoride concentrations, and above all, not to use large amounts of toothpaste. The amount equivalent to the "size of a lentil" is considered adequate.
From 6 years of age, the introduction of a rinse or gel applied in the dental clinic by the pediatric dentist is recommended as a preventive method against caries. Before 6 years of age, swallowing is not fully developed and too much fluoride would be ingested.
If the pediatric dentist deems it necessary, preventive seals of pits and fissures can be performed to prevent dental caries. As long as the molars to be sealed have recently erupted.
A good tooth brushing technique, regular check-ups at the children's dentist, the use of fluoride and a good diet control will help us maintain a healthy mouth from childhood to adolescence.
