Prevention of teething disorders
The progressive incorporation of the child to dental care favors the care of his mouth. Likewise, thanks to dental procedures and early diagnosis, the results obtained are much higher.
Generally, a clinical examination is performed and, if deemed appropriate, radiographs of areas suspected of presenting pathology will be obtained. Depending on the dental treatment required by the child, it may be necessary to proceed with sedation or anesthesia to carry it out due to the lack of logical cooperation on the part of the child.
The progressive implementation of preventive measures at an early age would lead us to an adolescent with ingrained dental habits.
On the other hand, let us not forget that some teething alterations have a genetic or hereditary nature (anomalies of number, size, shape ...) which cannot be influenced by correct dental habits but by an early diagnosis and immediate treatment. On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that certain dental anomalies make proper hygiene difficult, a fact that facilitates the appearance of cavities or periodontal disease.
Let us remember that another great cause of dental alterations can be environmental, especially alterations of the structure. For these cases, the preventive program is based on three fundamental pillars:
- Adequate plaque removal.
- Low carbohydrate diet.
- Promote preventive measures that increase resistance to cavities.
In the case of an adolescent with orthodontics, these measures must be extreme and require special measures: modified brushing in terms of technique and type of brush, use of dental floss, fluoride rinses and periodic application of gels or varnishes to prevent secondary demineralization. to orthodontic treatment.
In general, any preventive measure is applicable to teething disorders, without specific distinction. However, anomalies such as chromatic ones (due to coloring on the tooth surface or internal staining of the tooth) can benefit from specific measures, among which it is worth highlighting: frequent brushing (after each intake) with adequate technique, no smoking, no substance use. rich in tannin (brown staining), do not abuse antiseptic mouthwashes, regular visits to the dentist, do not self-medicate
Regarding eruption anomalies, it is worth highlighting the great importance of preventing cavities and dental trauma in the primary dentition to avoid dental delays or retention of permanent teeth.
Any early detection implies a better prognosis and result.
