Rowing against the current
Sometimes, striving just for the sake of it is not the key to reach our goals.
Have you ever wondered why you do not achieve a goal if you are following all the steps to do it? How is it possible that the results are not the desired or previously established if I am doing everything necessary to achieve it? How is it possible?
In many occasions we feel this way in life, and we think how is it possible not to achieve what I am proposing if I am following all the necessary steps to achieve it. Well, maybe those steps are not the right ones. If for a long time we repeat patterns of behavior and the answers are the same, we must change the action so that the response also changes.
On the other hand, we live so fast and we have so many things on our minds that we are unable to stop and look at we are unable to stop and look at what is going on around us, We are even capable of hitting the wall over and over again to achieve our goal, well our goal will never be to hit the wall, so this pattern that leads us to always do the same thing must be changed.
Why do we confuse sacrifice with effort?
Many times we focus wrongly the concept of our actions.. We live in a society that has taught us that with our sacrifice we will go far, but it is not true, because sometimes the sacrifice makes us leave something behind for something that does not compensate us, because there is already something we have lost. The effort should be the time we invest to achieve something that will make us feel better.
Well, the theory is simple to understand, but the practice is not so simple. Why is it that in many occasions we are not able to identify the situation we are in? We are so preoccupied with the conflict that blocks us, that we do not see beyond it. we do not see beyond.
Imagine that you are in a forest and in front of you there is a tree, and there is someone who explains that you are seeing one tree, although there are really many more, but as you are in front of it you are unable to see that there is a group of them. If you take two steps back you will see a different tree, if you take six steps back you will see another one. The further you move away from the focus, the more exits you will be able to contemplate..
I tell you a story
There is a group of people who are at a lake, and it has been established that the goal is to cross to the other side. This goal is easy to identify, as a lighthouse can be seen at the goal. But... how are they going to get to the lighthouse? Easy, there is a boat, and with this and group work, it is easy to get across the lake.
Well, imagine that you are in that group, and with a lot of desire and enthusiasm you get into the boat first; you go ahead and start rowing, the boat is moving forward, but there comes a time when, in spite of rowing, you do not see progress. in spite of rowing you don't see any progress and the distance to the lighthouse seems always the same. You keep rowing with all your strength; you are still not making any progress, but you keep rowing until you are exhausted. You look at the lighthouse and think.... "how is it possible that we are not moving forward!".
Well, now turn around and look at the people in the boat with you, some have stopped rowing, others are rowing against the current because they have decided to change their objective and this now is to return to the origin from where they started. from where they started.
What options do we have? Some of you may think: "well, I'll jump in the water and swim to the lighthouse". You can't because the water is too cold and your body won't handle the temperature. "Well then, since I'm the strongest, I'll just keep paddling". You won't make it, the rest of the group paddles in the opposite direction. The smartest option is to stop rowing while the boat returns to the origin, this way you can rest. This way you can rest and when you get back to the port you will take a boat by yourself and row to the lighthouse. Only in this way you will reach your goal.
Neurolinguistic programming (NLP) gives us tools to identify those unconscious states that make us generate negative behavioral patterns, and once identified our job is to reprogram them into positive states, into behaviors that help us feel better about ourselves, thus being able to achieve those goals we set for ourselves. And you, do you dare to reprogram yourself?
