Spain and organ donation
According to data from the, most of its member states participate in the organ donation and more than a third part performs deceased donor transplants. However, it has been seen that the increase in the numbers of transplants occurs especially in those countries with better access to medical services and that invest a greater amount of money in health.
Organ donation
According to the report published in 2017 by the World Transplant Registry, which is managed by the Spanish Registry in collaboration with the WHO, in 2017 a total of 135,860 transplants were performed, which represents an increase of 7.25%. Of all these transplants:
- 82,823 kidney (40.2% from living donor).
- 30,352 from liver (19.8% from living donor).
- 7,626 of heart.
- 5,497 from lung (0.3% from living donor).
- 2,342 of pancreas.
- 220 intestine.
Donor Profile and Organ Donation Figures
This year, and for the first time, the number of organ donors by gender and it has been seen that six out of 10 living kidney donors are women, while six out of 10 living liver donors are men.
