Tips for creating a good study habit
If a child does not achieve the expected results on tests and we know that they have the ability to do so, they probably lack good study habits.
Studying many hours before the exam is not the key to achieving a good result. A study planning allows us to use minimal or moderate energy waste to obtain the greatest benefit. In short: effort well invested and without exhausting ourselves.
There is nothing easy, we cannot pretend that without making an effort we will achieve the maximum result but the key, like almost everything in life, is: strategy, planning and perseverance.
The keys to get a good study habit
Study a little every day
Reviewing, reading and understanding every day what has been said and done in class will allow you to assimilate little by little the contents and link with each other as they are explained. With one or two hours of study a day you can be sure that the long-term change is going to be spectacular. The daily rhythm, like a marathon, will allow you to arrive on the day of the exam with the security of having understood everything in time.
Leisure time
It is very important to keep your mind fresh before starting to study. Ideally, after class you have a moment to relax: a walk, go to practice your favorite, watch a little television or have a drink with your friends. By returning home relaxed, the mind is more receptive to processing new content and learning better.
Good nutrition
Eating properly provides us with the necessary energy to carry out all our activities. The brain needs glucose to function and some nutrients that are, for example, in fish. A low fat and refined sugar can help you focus better.
The environment is important
A good study environment makes things easier for you. It should always be the same place, well lit, with a good temperature, without noise and isolated from distractions. Do not study with television or radio, they will distract you and you will not spend more time than necessary learning.
Make schematics or diagrams
Try to make the concepts and how they are related through visual schemes. Making summary tables with the key ideas, comparative tables or diagrams can help you organize and synthesize the ideas and fix the contents. Don't memorize reason and understand.
Have a schedule
It's great to plan your weekly study and leisure, as well as your to-dos for the next day. The organization in the short and long term will make you distinguish the urgent from the important.
Take breaks
Each 45 minutes it is advisable to take a short break of 15 minutes. Drink some water or stretch your legs. Concentration cannot be maintained indefinitely, so resting your mind is essential for studying.
