Toothpastes, are they all the same?
A good way to take care of yourself is by brushing your teeth well. Pasta is a good support but it must be said that they do not work miracles either, despite the fact that advertising sometimes wants us to believe it.
Types of pasta
The types of toothpastes are determined by their ingredients, which make them more recommended for each case.
- Whitening pastes:
Substances are added to bleaching pastes for this purpose. They are recommended to maintain a previously performed whitening in the clinic rather than to achieve results alone.
- Desensitizing pastes:
To be effective, they must be used for a long time. Currently there are many studies and many advances in this type of pastes, which make them increasingly effective.
- Gum paste:
- Treatment: they include a widely used and very effective antiseptic that is chlorhexidine. It is usually used in acute periods, that is, no more than 10 days, since this component, used for a longer term, causes a reversible brownish-brown stain (disappears with professional oral cleaning) quite unsightly.
- Maintenance: they usually contain triclosan, a very effective antibacterial for maintaining the health of the gums in patients who require it.
- Anticaries pastes:
The anticaries component par excellence is undoubtedly fluoride. Most toothpastes contain fluoride, but anticaries pastes themselves contain higher amounts (always within the recommended amounts). It is especially important for children to use an appropriate paste for their age, since in adult paste the amount of fluoride will be greater. Which one is better to use? Who will have the answer to our question is going to be our dentist. He is the one who is going to tell us which pasta will be most helpful in our particular case.
- We can find a toothpaste for every situation based on its ingredients.
- Instead of being guided by advertising, it is best for our dentist to indicate the most appropriate one.
- Caring for teeth at any age is very important, which is why more and more companies offer specific dental health insurance with interesting coverage.
