Emcure Pharmaceuticals
Emcure Pharmaceuticals is one of the major Indian pharmaceutical companies that operates both locally and internationally. It was established back in 1981. The name of the company is an abbreviation of its mission “Effective Medicine to Cure” patients.
In 2017, the company was ranked the 12th in the top of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in its home country and considering that India is the major supplier of generics all around the world, this position is quite significant. By 2017, it employed over fifteen thousand people.
As stated by the company’s leaders, the success of its products is due to the high quality materials and the most modern technologies used for production as well as its established presence in all major healthcare areas such as blood related diseases, cardiology, analgesics (pain medicines), HIV, gynecology, nephrology (kidney diseases), anti-infective, and nutrient additives. Recently, the company also entered the oncology, diabetes, and neuroscience therapeutic areas.
Distribution of Emcure Pharmaceuticals products
The company is focused on the continuous growth of its facilities, research base, and of course, the expansion of its distribution. The company’s products are currently available in over seventy countries. In some of them, the products are exported from India while in others the company has its own facilities. For instance, in the U.S., the drug-making company is represented by a subsidiary company called Heritage. Other subsidiaries are located in Dubai, Brazil, South Africa, Singapore, Nigeria, Russia, and Morocco.
It is possible for the company to expand so successfully because it ensures that all of its facilities are certified in accordance with the Good Manufacturing Practice, the guidelines of the World Health Organization, and approved by the American Food and Drug Administration.
Products made by the company
Currently, the concern is focused on a limited number of therapeutic areas preferring to master them working on its own brand products and generics rather than reproduce multiple generics only. In order to provide the patients all around the globe with the most needed medications, the company concludes exclusive contracts with major drug-makers who develop innovational medications and are willing to share the formula with generics makers. Being a producer of generics, Emcure Pharmaceuticals can make essential innovational drugs more affordable especially for people from developing countries. For instance, it has currently a range of eleven chiral molecules, eight of which were launched for the first time in India by EmcurePharmaceuticals.
The company also works on the new formulations of already developed medicines that would allow controlled release dosages.
Emcure Pharmaceuticals research and development department
It would be impossible for a pharmaceutical company on a highly-competitive Indian market to succeed without having a qualitative research and development department consisting of highly qualified scientists. In the research performed by Emcure Pharmaceuticals are involved over five-hundred specialists twenty of which are post-doctorates, forty-five are Ph.D. holders, and 435 are post-graduates.
The team of selected scientists works on the development of complex active pharmaceutical ingredients, new finished drugs, and improvement of existing formulations by changing the delivery form or implementing controlled release technique. The research and development activities are performed at nine dedicated facilities, located in Pune, Ahmedabad, India, and New Jersey, the U.S. Two of these research and development centers are focused on active pharmaceutical ingredients research, five are working formulations research, and two are working on biotechnology research.
Production facilities
The company has eleven production facilities in India and other countries, including the U.S. It also has specialized API-producing plants which help in vertically integrating company’s manufacturing operations to control quality and cost.
The facilities of the company are versatile, i.e. they allow producing various forms of products such as solid oral pills, dissolvable pills, chewable flavored pills, and hard and soft-shelled capsules for release control. The formulations for injections are available in various packaging formats also such as pre-filled syringes, lyophilized, and liquid solutions.
