Morepen Pharmaceuticals Generic drugs
Morepen Laboratories Ltd.
This company was established in 1984 as a producer of active pharmaceutical ingredients for other drug-making companies, i.e. produced the main components of the drugs that were marketed by somebody else. But now it is a full-cycle company with strong research and development department that works on the high-value molecules, novel delivery forms for the existing medications, and so on which allowed company to patent several medications.
Company’s history
Continuously developing and investing in the research, Morepen decided and was finally able to expand its markets to the western countries in 1999. But first it was necessary to receive the approval of the production facilities from the United States Food and Drugs Authority which was received the same year.
To satisfy the demand for the medications produced by the company, it felt the need to expand the production facilities. From the year 1996 to 2005 only, the value of the production facilities as assets grew from 97 million of U.S. Dollar to 188 million of U.S. Dollar.
The company went public, i.e. made its shares available through stock exchange in 1993.
As a part of its active pharmaceutical ingredient production and research, Morepen Laboratories began working on the new generation high-value molecules and precisely Ketrolac, Omeprazole, Cisapride and Loratadine with the last drug being among the company’s international exported products. Expecting the expiration of the patent of the U.S. company for Loratadine, an anti-allergy medication known worldwide as Claritin, in 2000, Morepen petitioned and secured U.S. FDA permission for the manufacture of Loratadine. In 1999, the drug-maker was granted U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s approval that made Morepen the youngest Indian company to get this approval.
